Dr. David Harrison joined the faculty in 2023. For the 12 years prior to joining the Computer and Information Science department, he served as the founding Chief Technology Officer of Samba TV, Inc., a Data-as-a-Service and data analytics company backed by Disney, A+E, and Time Warner (now Warner Bros. Discovery), with its Series A venture capital led by August Capital. He continues to serve as CTO Emeritus.
Before his tenure at Samba TV, Dr. Harrison was an early employee at BitTorrent Inc. and co-founded BitTorrent.org. As its editor, he led the open-source project initiated by Bram Cohen. Under Dr. Harrison’s leadership, BitTorrent accounted for approximately 30% of all Internet traffic by volume.
Dr. Harrison has also worked as a post-doctoral research scientist at UC Berkeley in the Video and Image Processing Lab and earned his Ph.D. from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute.
His research interests focus on data science, data engineering, data privacy, and artificial intelligence.
