Abstract:
SAGE is a free mathematics software package with features that make it
comparable to professional mathematics packages such as Matlab and
Mathematica. SAGE is a patchwork of several popular open source
utilities that have been configured specifically for a mathematics
environment. Within SAGE is Python for scripting and the GD library for
graphics. SAGE offers a traditional command line utility and a
sophisticated web front end to allow users to store notebooks of
calculations. The first version of SAGE was released in 2005. While it
is still a newcomer to the genre of mathematics software packages it is
quickly gaining respect for its web front end and its easy-to-learn
programming environment (which is essentially Python).
This presentation will demonstrate the algebra, linear algebra,
graphics, and programming features of SAGE.
