Mathematica 6 in Education and Research

Abstract:

This talk illustrates capabilities in Mathematica 6 that are directly applicable for use in teaching and research on campus. Topics of this technical talk include:

  • 2D and 3D visualization
  • Dynamic interactivity
  • On-demand scientific data
  • Example-driven course materials
  • Symbolic interface construction
  • Practical and theoretical applications
Current users will benefit from seeing the many improvements and new features of Mathematica 6 (http://www.wolfram.com/mathematica/newin6), but prior knowledge of Mathematica is not required.

Biography:
Andy Dorsett is an Academic Relationship Executive with Wolfram Research. He received a BA in Mathematics from the University of Southern Indiana in May 2000 and an MS in Mathematics Education from Indiana State University in August 2007. Andy spent the majority of his professional career in education: 8 years as a high school math teacher, including last year where he also served as an adjunct professor at Indiana State University at Terre Haute, IN. Andy joined Wolfram Research in June 2008 in an effort to use his Mathematics education background and knowledge in a new arena.
